Recommended GobbleGums
Solo GobbleGums | Co-op GobbleGums |
---|---|
These GobbleGums are not required to complete the main quest and are just recommendations if you want to use them to make your experience easier and/or more enjoyable.
Step 1: Access the Alchemical Lab
Once Pack-a-Punch has been unlocked, head to the Dungeon and interact with the wooden door to reveal Gabriel Krafft who has been imprisoned by the French Syndicate. After the dialogue, head to the Dining Hall, and behind the Stag's Knight will be a wall that disappears revealing the Alchemical Lab.
Step 2: Obtain the Elemental Swords
The Elemental Incantations can be significantly progressed before requiring the Elemental Swords to complete, therefore it is generally recommended to work on both at the same time, however you do not need to if you want to take your time. If you are in a group, once a player has their Elemental Sword they should immediately begin working on their Elemental Incantation.
Survive until Round 10 and wait until a zombie with a knight helmet appears. Killing it will drop a Stamp for you to pick up. Once you have the Stamp, interact with one of the four knight statues in the Dining Hall to claim one of the four Bastard Swords, Dragon, Stag, Raven, and Lion to begin upgrading them.
Caliburn: Dragon's Fire
Head to the Dining Hall and use a Stamp on the Dragon's Knight to obtain the Dragon Bastard Sword. Afterward, head to the Entrance Hall and place the Dragon Bastard Sword into the slit in front of the Dragon Statue.
Above the statue will now be three glowing dots corresponding to three Dragon Fire braziers you must interact with. The locations of the braziers are always the same and are as follows:
Interacting with a brazier will claim the Dragon's Fire within it damaging you until you successfully return the Dragon's Fire to the Dragon Statue in the Entrance Hall by interacting with the statue. However, you can melee zombies while running with the fire to restore your health.
After claiming the Dragon's Fire, you will be given an immense speed boost to make it easier to return to the Dragon's Statue, and the closer you get to the statue the less damage you will take per tick.
Once all three Dragon's Fires have been returned to the Dragon Statue, the statue will breathe fire on the sword, forging it into the Caliburn: Dragon's Fire elemental sword.
Durendal: Stag of the Storms
Head to the Dining Hall and use a Stamp on the Stag's Knight to obtain the Stag Bastard Sword. Afterward, you must find and collect three Lightning Rods each obtained in different ways.
The first Lightning Rod can be obtained from the beginning of the game and is found lying next to the
Perk Machine in the Nature Path just outside the stable. The second Lightning Rod can also be obtained from the beginning of the game and requires you to have a weapon with the
ammo mod equipped which you can use to shoot a fuse box on the side of a building in the Upper Village near dropping the Lightning Rod.The final Lightning Rod can only be obtained after claiming the Stag Bastard Sword and requires you to kill zombies in the Dungeon until it drops.
Once all three Lightning Rods have been obtained, head to the Hillside Ramparts and place the Lightning Rods inside of the metal vase causing a lightning storm to appear spawning a bunch of zombies.
Survive inside the lightning storm with the Stag Bastard Sword equipped to eventually have lightning strike it, imbuing it with electric energy. Once imbued you can melee the vase to transfer the energy to one of the Lightning Rods, then repeat this for the other two Lightning Rods.
Once all three Lightning Rods are electrified, interact with the metal vase to place the bastard sword inside, electrifying it and forging it into the Durendal: Stag of the Storms elemental sword.
Balmung: Raven's Shadow
Head to the Dining Hall and use a Stamp on the Raven's Knight to obtain the Raven Bastard Sword. Afterward, head into the Alchemical Lab and pick up an animal bone trophy that will either be on the tables or bookshelves in the room.
The trophy in your game will be one of the five possible bone trophies each resulting in a different combination in the next step of obtaining this elemental sword. The five bone trophies are:
Ram's Horn
Two Bird Skulls
Lion's Jaw with Teeth
Rock with a Fish
Rock with a Scorpion
Once you have the animal bone trophy, head to the Tavern Cellar in the Town Square and place the animal trophy on the rune wheel on the wall, activating the wheel.
Equip the Raven Bastard Sword and insert it into the wheel to be able to interact and start turning the wheel. Use the image below to find out which symbol to set the inner and outer rings to based on the trophy you have in your game:
The correct Inner/Outer symbol need to be in the bottom center of the wheel so that the green arrow on the rune wheel is pointing at them.
Once the correct code has been entered, a dark portal will appear on the ground and dark orbs will start coming out of the rune wheel and will begin following you, damaging you if they touch you. Your goal is to lead the dark orbs over the dark portal to have them enter it.
Once three dark orbs have entered the dark portal, the portal will close and move to a new location within the Tavern, you must do this two more times for a total of three dark portals. Afterward, the dark energy will go back into the rune wheel which you can interact with, spawning another dark portal and forging the Balmung: Raven's Shadow elemental sword.
Solais: Lion of Light
Head to the Dining Hall and use a Stamp on the Lion's Knight to obtain the Lion Bastard Sword. Afterward, glowing Parasites will begin spawning on the map which you must melee with the Lion Bastard Sword to imbue it with light energy.
With the Lion Bastard Sword imbued, you must transfer the light energy to the Lion's Door in the Upper Village near
revealing one of four symbols on the door. Repeat until all four symbols are on the Lion's Door.Once all four symbols are on the door, interact with it to begin knocking on the door, teleporting you inside the room where you can place your Lion's Bastard Sword inside the pedestal revealing those same four symbols, which you must shoot in the order shown on the pedestal.
The order is always the same: Dot Circle Symbol, Star Symbol, Triangle Symbol, Line Circle Symbol. Once you have shot all the symbols, the Lion Bastard Sword will be transformed into the Solais: Lion of Light elemental sword.
Step 3: Obtain the Elemental Incantations
Fire Incantation
Head to the Village Ramparts where the Lion's Cannon is located where you will find three wooden pyres that you must ignite. You can use the Caliburn: Dragon's Fire elemental sword, Molotovs, or Thermo Grenades to ignite the wooden pyres. Their locations are as follows:
After igniting a wooden pyre zombies will begin spawning which you must kill, after the final wooden pyre has been ignited and the Doppleghast has been killed it will drop the ritual item Ra's Ankh.
To begin the ritual, place Ra's Ankh on the ritual circle in the Courtyard left of the Arsenal. This will spawn a bunch of zombies that you must kill to charge the item and after about 20 zombie kills, the Fire Incantation chest will appear and can be opened by meleeing it with the Caliburn: Dragon's Fire elemental sword.
Electric Incantation
Head to the Hilltop and enter the stable, shoot Otto's Horseshoe on the wall just above the doorway leading away from
to be able to pick it up.Afterward, head to the Village Ramparts and place yourself inside the Lion's Cannon to launch yourself to the Town Square. Mid-flight you will be struck by lightning electrifying Otto's Horseshoe.
Once landed, look in the sky toward the Nature Path or Village to find a storm cloud, striking lightning on the ground and spawning zombies. Underneath this storm cloud is the ritual item Pegasus's Horseshoe which you must pick up.
To begin the ritual, place Pegasus' Horseshoe on the ritual circle in the Town Square left of the door leading to the Nature Path. This will spawn a bunch of zombies that you must kill to charge the item and after about 20 zombie kills, the Electric Incantation chest will appear and can be opened by meleeing it with the Durendal: Stag of the Storms elemental sword.
Dark Incantation
Head to the Small Passage where Pack-a-Punch is located, and interact with the Cave Slide Fast Travel to take you to the Town Square. As you approach the end of the slide, there will be a Raven on a rock within the sewer section of the fast travel that you must shoot.
After you have shot the Raven and have landed in the Town Square look toward the sky to find the Raven flying around the Town Square, Nature Path, Courtyard, and Village. You must shoot this Raven once more, killing it and dropping the ritual item Raven's Talon.
To begin the ritual, place the Raven's Talon on the ritual circle in the Undercroft near the tombstones. This will spawn a bunch of zombies that you must kill to charge the item and after about 20 zombie kills, the Dark Incantation chest will appear and can be opened by meleeing it with the Balmung: Raven's Shadow elemental sword.
Light Incantation
Head to the Dining Hall and shoot the red crystal above the
perk to activate a red beam. You must shoot this crystal from a certain angle to get the red beam to point at the red crystal above the door leading to the Entrance Hall.
It can take more than one shot to align correctly, if the red beam is not being adjusted from where you are shooting it, switch to a different angle.
Afterward, you must shoot that red crystal from a certain angle to get the beam to point at the crystal above the Lion's Knight, then repeat with that crystal to get it to point to the crystal within the Alchemical Lab above the bookshelf, and to the last crystal above the Arsenal.
Once all the red crystals are aligned, you must shoot the final one above the Arsenal so that red beam hits the marble statue on the table near the Elemental Tablet, causing the ritual item Paladin's Brooch to spawn out of the marble statue for you to pick up.
To begin the ritual, place the Paladin's Brooch on the ritual circle in the Dining Hall door leading to the Entrance Hall. This will spawn a bunch of zombies that you must kill to charge the item and after about 20 zombie kills, the Light Incantation chest will appear and can be opened by meleeing it with the Solais: Lion's Light elemental sword.
Step 4: Solve the Puzzle
Head to the Undercroft and punch the cracked wall in the Southwest corner using
to reveal a symbol board similar to the one seen in Ancient Evil. You must input the correct six symbols in their correct order. The six symbols and their correct order can be found in the bar inside the Town Square. There are six vases around the bar each having a Roman Numeral etched on it indicating the order the symbol on it must be entered, interact with each of these vases to reveal their symbols.
There are always six vases inside the tavern, one upstairs and five on the main floor. None are in the Tavern Cellar, and the Roman Numerals on each vase are always the same, the only thing that changes from game to game is which symbol appears on each vase.
In case you don't know how to read Roman Numerals below is an image to help you. Once you have the six symbols and their order shoot the symbols on the symbol board in that order, pause between shots as the board will begin shifting after each symbol has been entered before settling in a new position.
If you think you will have trouble remembering the order or symbols, take a picture of them or write them down using words you think they look like rather than drawing them to help you remember.
Once the symbols have been entered correctly, a small section of the wall to the left of the board will disappear revealing a book with missing pages. You must find four page fragments all of which are located in or around the Sitting Rooms each containing a glowing red eye symbol on them.
These page fragments can only spawn in or around the Sitting Rooms, do not go into any other room as you will not find any there, usually there are two within the room itself, and two in the hallways around the room, however that isn't always the case.
Once all four-page fragments have been found, interact with the book to restore the pages, which should now show four different glowing eye symbols. These symbols represent different Points of Power traps around the map that you must activate and kill zombies using.
The order in which you need to activate these traps and get kills is always, Top Left, Bottom Left, Top Right, Bottom Right symbols when looking at the book. There are six Points of Power traps around the map so you must look through all of them to find the four correct ones. Their locations are as follows:
Two of these Points of Power traps will not be glowing as one of the four symbols and will instead be glowing fully red, almost appearing as all the symbols combined. These are the two Points of Power you can ignore completely. In the images above, those two are the Courtyard and Dungeon, but it may not be the same in your game.
You will know if you have done a correct Point of Power if the symbol on the book is no longer glowing red. Once all four symbols are no longer glowing red, you should receive some dialogue, and four animal symbols should appear on the wall on the stairs leading down to the Undercroft from the Sitting Rooms indicating the completion of this step.
Step 5: Charge the Mystic Orb
Look at the wall with the animal symbols on the stairs connecting the Undercroft and Sitting Rooms. Each symbol will be numbered 1-4 in Roman Numerals, this is the order in which you must perform a chain of events to enchant that animal's knight in the Dining Hall.
To enchant a knight, you must be holding the corresponding Elemental Sword, and have the matching Elemental Incantation in your tactical slot. With those requirements met, use your Elemental Incantation on the knight to have it start glowing, then immediately begin inspecting the Elemental Sword while in front of the knight. If done correctly, the knight should change positions and have a yellow aura emitting from it.
You do not need to go through the entire inspect animation, you just need to trigger it while in front of the knight you used the incantation on.
Repeat this for the other three knights, following the order displayed on the wall until all four knights have been enchanted, spawning in a Mystic Orb that you must pick up. Once you have the Mystic Orb, you must complete four Elemental Challenges to charge the orb in four different locations, each location representing a certain element.
Light Elemental Challenge
Head to the Dining Hall, upstairs above the door leading to the Entrance Hall will be the orb pedestal for you to place the Mystic Orb.
Once placed, interact with the orb to begin the challenge spawning in waves of zombies that you can kill using Light Damage from either Solais: Lion of Light elemental sword special ability, or
ammo mod. There will also be Light Orbs that spawn around the Dining Hall which when ran through will count as a soul toward the challenge.
Running through the Light Orbs should be the main way you complete this challenge as the special ability takes time to charge and the
ammo mod has a cooldown.
Once the challenge has been completed, you can pick up the Mystic Orb, a new elemental sword and incantation, and move on to the next challenge.
Fire Elemental Challenge
Head to the Courtyard, on the wall underneath the tree, will be the orb pedestal for you to place the Mystic Orb.
Once placed, interact with the orb to begin the challenge spawning in waves of zombies that you must kill using Fire Damage from either Caliburn: Dragon's Fire elemental sword special ability, Fire Incantion,
, or fire damaging lethals.
You can also use the Caliburn: Dragon's Fire base attack when fully charged which will do fire damage to complete this challenge. The Dragon's Breath fire mod for shotguns also seems to work for this challenge.
Once the challenge has been completed, you can pick up the Mystic Orb, a new elemental sword and incantation, and move on to the next challenge.
Electric Elemental Challenge
Head to the Town Square, on the wall left of the door leading to the Nature Path will be the orb pedestal for you to place the Mystic Orb.
Once placed, interact with the orb to begin the challenge spawning in waves of zombies that you must kill using Electric Damage from either Durendal: Stag of the Storms elemental sword special ability, Electric Incantation,
or Shock Charges.Once the challenge has been completed, you can pick up the Mystic Orb, a new elemental sword and incantation, and move on to the next challenge.
Shadow Elemental Challenge
Head to the Undercroft, on the wall left of the Dark Incantation chest will be the orb pedestal for you to place the Mystic Orb.
Once placed, interact with the orb to begin the challenge spawning in waves of zombies that you must kill using Shadow Damage from either Balmung: Raven's Shadow elemental sword special ability, Dark Incantation,
or Kazimir Devices.Once this final challenge has been completed, you can pick up the Mystic Orb and place the Charged Mystic Orb on the orb pedestal on the wall with the animal symbols, removing the wall and revealing The Owl for you to speak to.
Step 6: Defeat the Guardian
Before continuing, it is recommended to be fully prepared for a boss fight, all perks, fully packed and max rarity weapons, tier 3 armor, self-revives, mutant injections, field upgrades charged, and optionally GobbleGum.
Grab the Guardian Key from the table underneath where The Owl was and bring it to the Town Square. Place the Guardian Key inside the slot underneath the giant statue in the middle of the Town Square to enter the boss arena.
Make sure that you have a Bullet weapon to hit the critical points of the boss, the GS45 can work but is much harder to hit the shots on and is mainly recommended for breaking the boss's armor. Additionally, the Solais: Lion of Light elemental sword is recommended for this boss fight, as when it's fully charged basic attacks will replenish your armor.
Boss Attacks
This boss does not have any wipe mechanics so you never have to worry about instantly dying, however, he does have a very strong attack that you almost must avoid every single time, otherwise, you risk dying. That attack is his Fireballs, he will launch three of them spreading lava in a wide area that they hit temporarily.
These do massive damage if they hit you, and also do massive damage over time if you step in the lava, you must pay attention to this attack as it is most likely the only way you will die in this boss fight, all other attacks are not nearly as threatening.
You can actually parry the Fireballs using the sword, however it is not the easiest thing to do and if you miss time the parry you will be taking massive damage.
The second attack is a leaping hammer smash, during this attack if you are the one being targeted you will see a pulsing red ring underneath you indicating the Area of Effect. The closer you are to the center of this attack the more damage you will take, so it is important to stay out of the area or at the very least, not in the center.
The real threat of this attack is that it launches you out of the main arena and into the lava which as mentioned earlier is most likley the only way you will die in this boss fight.
The third attack is a basic ground stomp attack that he will do whenever you are in close proximity. This attack does not do much damage if you have armor and are not in the center of the stomp. If you circle around the boss's feet while slashing with your sword you can do significant damage before needing to back up.
Once his calf weak points have been destroyed you should switch to ranged combat against his other weak points, forearms, shoulders, and chest.
The final attack is a hammer slam spawning in a straight line of lava in the direction of the slam, this can be dangerous because of the lava doing damage over time and as previously mentioned it is most likely the thing you will die to in this boss fight, so you must avoid all lava.
Phase 1
During this entire boss fight you should constantly be moving to avoid any Fireballs and other attacks.
During this phase, the boss will take little to no damage until you break off its armor causing it to stagger. The GS45 (Akimbo) fully upgraded seems to be the best for this as they do the most damage to the boss during this armored state.
You can also use the Krig C to break off the armor and then follow up with the GS45s if you find that the weak points are easy to hit with the GS45s as they do more damage than the Krig C if you can land them.
The boss will be moving very slowly until the armor is broken then will begin to move around quicker, once the armor is broken a weak point will be exposed which you must hit in order to do any significant damage. Once the boss has lost a third of his health this phase will be completed.
During the downtime between phases, use your sword and incantations to preserve ammo and clear the zombies quickly. If you are using Solais: Lion of Light now is the time to refil your armor by getting kills with it while fully charged.
Phase 2
During this phase, the boss will now have the leaping hammer attack and more of the arena will be covered in lava making it smaller, the boss will be armored again, but will take significantly less damage to stagger and expose another weak point.
Focus on the weak points, while avoiding the Fireballs and leaping attacks, and if the weak point goes away shoot at other armored spots to break them off revealing more weak points. Once the boss has lost another third of his health this phase will be completed.
During the transition between Phase 2 - 3 Amalgams will spawn which can be easily taken care of using either the Electric Incantation or the Fire Incantation. The other incantations are also good, but will require more than one use to fully kill the Amalgam.
Phase 3
During this phase, the boss will be most dangerous spamming the Fireball and Ground Stomp attack and moving very quickly but will be fully exposed and should be taken down fairly quickly at this point by focusing on all the different weak points.
The arena will be shrunken again by lava almost exclusively forcing you into the middle of the boss arena, prioritize staying alive while damaging the boss, and remember to use your Field Upgrades as needed to either avoid damage or deal damage. Once you do enough damage the boss will be defeated and you can pick up the Amulet to trigger the ending cutscene.
Congratulations! You have beaten the Citadelle des Morts main quest.
