Step 1: The Beginning of the End
Within the map are four ritual sites, one in the Spawn, Canals District, Footlight District, and Waterfront District that each require an item tied to the committed sin of the characters. Activating the ritual by placing the item with the Summoning Key on the altar at the ritual site will cause Keepers to spawn alongside zombies. You will have to survive within the ritual site until it is complete.
Killing Keepers/Zombies will not progress the ritual faster. The 2nd and 4th rituals will cause a Margwa to spawn once completed.
Obtaining the Summoning Key
To obtain the Summoning Key, you must enter beast mode and melee the box on the back of a truck in the spawn area. Afterward, you can exit the beast to pick up the Summoning Key.
Spawn Ritual
Before starting this ritual, you must obtain the Lawyer's Pen and open the ritual site. To obtain the pen, open the door from Spawn to the Junction area, then enter beast mode and shock the powerbox on the crane in the center of the junction, this will cause a box to drop containing the pen.
After shocking the powerbox and still in beast mode, face the spawn and look up to see some metal stairs and a hook you can grapple toward. Once up, run through the building and roofs until you reach the stairs leading down to the Spawn then shock the powerbox to activate the stairs opening the ritual site.
With the ritual site open, you can go inside and place the Lawyer's Pen and Summoning Key on the altar to begin the ritual. Once completed, pick up the Gateworm and proceed to the next ritual.
You can only do one ritual at a time since the Summoning Key is required and there is only one Summoning Key.
Canals Ritual
Before starting this ritual, you must obtain the Detective's Badge and open the ritual site. To obtain the badge, enter beast mode and go down into the canal running, opposite of spawn towards the end of the canal will be a powerbox you can shock within a wall.
Once shocked and still in beast mode, back-track in the canal moving towards spawn, and on the left will be a box that you can melee revealing the Detective's Badge
Next, open the door that leads to the Train Station. Enter beast mode and look towards the balcony of the building just right of the Train Station to find a hook you can grapple toward. Afterward, run down the stairs of the building until you reach the stairs leading to the ground level and shock the powerbox to open the ritual site.
With the ritual site open, you can go inside and place the Detective's Badge and Summoning Key on the altar to begin the ritual. Once completed, pick up the Gateworm and proceed to the next ritual.
Footlight Ritual
Before starting this ritual, you must obtain the Wig and open the ritual site. To obtain the Wig, enter beast mode and look above the stairs of the Footlight High Street to find a hook you can grapple toward to shock the powerbox opening the stairs.
Afterward, opposite the perk machine, there is a ledge with a box that you must melee in beast mode pushing the box off the edge and revealing the Wig.
Next, open the door leading to The Black Lace and enter beast mode. Look towards the top of The Black Lace to find a hook you can grapple toward, once up turn around to find a powerbox on the wall that you can shock opening the ritual site.
With the ritual site open, you can enter and place the Wig and Summoning Key on the altar to begin the ritual. Once completed, pick up the Gateworm and proceed to the next ritual.
Waterfront Ritual
Before starting this ritual, you must obtain the Champion's Belt and open the ritual site. To obtain the Champion's Belt, enter beast mode, head to the Mystery box location, and look up and to the right to find a hook you can grapple toward and melee the box to reveal the belt.
Next, open the door leading to the Train Station, and while in beast make your way down near the harbors and melee the door to the Boxing Gym opening the ritual site.
With the ritual site open, you can enter and place the Champion's Belt and Summoning Key on the altar to begin the ritual. Once completed, pick up the Gateworm and proceed to the next ritual.
Ascending the Apocalypse
With all the rituals completed and Gateworms obtained a new section is now accessible by traveling through a rift locked behind a breakable door (in beast mode) at one of the three districts, and walking up to glowing Apothican symbols on the wall to reveal the new section.
Once inside, you must place the four Gateworms you obtained from the rituals in each of the four pedestals in the room, two of which you must wall-run to the other side of the room to interact with.
Afterward, interact with the altar near the entrance to start another ritual you have to survive which once completed will reveal both The Shadowman and the Pack-a-Punch machine.
Step 2: Obtaining the Apothican Swords
To obtain the Apothican Sword, you must find three glowing red symbols by riding the train to certain districts. Below is a map showing the location of the symbols marked by a "?" on the map:
Important Note: The top question mark is the Footlight District symbol, the right is the Waterfront District symbol, and the bottom left is the Canals District symbol. You will always see two symbols in a single train ride.
Use the map to see what side of the train you need to look out to see the symbol for leaving the current district you are in and the one you are going to. Below is an image of all the possible symbols:
Once you have the three symbols, head to the underground area outside the Pack-a-Punch room and enter beast mode. You'll then have to shock the three symbols on the wall you see in the above image revealing four Apothican Eggs and Apothican Swords.
Each player must pick up an egg and begin filling it with zombie souls by placing the eggs on four Cthulu statues around the map and killing 10 zombies near the egg once placed. The locations of the four Cthulu statues are:
These statues are hidden inside large boxes that you must break open while in beast mode to reveal them. You can break these boxes at any time in the game, but, if you haven't yet you will need to do so before being able to place the egg on the statue.
Once filled, the egg will appear blue with no shell. Now, head down to where you grabbed the egg and place it back within the slot, afterward grab the Apothican Sword out of its placeholder.
Step 3: Upgrading the Apothican Swords
Once the sword is acquired, each player has to return to their character-specific ritual sites to claim a dark Apothican Egg known as the Arch-Ovum from a ghost keeper. The character-specific ritual sites are as follows:
Nero the Magician - located above the Spawn
Floyd the Boxer - located in the Waterfront District at the Boxing Gym
Jackie the Detective - located in the Canals District at the Ruby Rabbit
Jessica the Femme Fatale - located in the Footlight District at the Black Lace Burlesque
Once you have claimed the Arch-Ovum from the ghost keeper, you need to place the Arch-Ovum on four red circles around the map near each ritual site, their locations are as follows:
After placing the Arch-Ovum on the circle, this will begin a ritual spawning up to four Margaws you must kill to charge the Arch-Ovum. Each player can only complete one ritual per round and must complete a different ritual each time until all four are completed.
Other players cannot begin a ritual if another player is currently involved in a ritual. Only once those Margwas have been killed will other players be able to do their rituals.
Once all rituals have been completed, head back to your character-specific ritual site to give your Apothican Sword to the ghost keeper who will upgrade it into the Reborn Keeper Sword.
Step 4: Capture the Flag
Head to Nero the Magician's ritual site, on the ground near the bookshelves you will find a large open book that you must interact with, spawning in a flag in the underground section of the map.
A player must pick up the flag de-spawning all zombies and rapidly spawning Insanity Elementals (aka Meatballs). The player must now carry the flag to spots marked with purple electricity on the ground.
Once placed, players must protect the flag from all incoming attacks. The Shadowman will appear periodically around the flag damaging it and delaying its progress to completion so it's important to take care of him ASAP once you see him. Once protected long enough, there will be a chime meaning the flag can be picked up and moved to the next location.
These spots can be done in any order, however, it is easiest if you do 2 spots within a single district to help keep track of progress and Max Ammos since one will drop every time the flag chimes for up to two times in each district.
Once you have protected the flag at 2 spots within a district, you must take the flag to the ritual site located in that district and place it at the altar where a ghost keeper will become a regular keeper and take the flag back down to the underground returning the round to normal and spawning a Margwa.
This must be repeated until the flag has been placed at each of the four ritual sites, however, only one successful flag completion can be made per round.
If the flag is ever destroyed or if the flag carrier is downed, you can head back to the underground to pick up the flag immediately to try again. The flag is very fragile and will be destoryed if hit with more than a couple attacks from the Insanity Elementals (aka meatballs)
Step 5: Capturing the Shadowman
All players must head to the Pack-a-Punch room and interact with one of the keepers which will hand over your Reborn Keeper Sword for use in capturing the Shadowman. Once all keepers have been interacted with, they will lower the Shadowman's shield by shooting four red beams at the Shadowman.
Once the shield is down everyone must shoot the Shadowman until he is hovering over the altar near the entrance of the Pack-a-Punch room. Once hovering, a player must interact with the Summoning Key on the altar to capture the Shadowman, turning him into a Gateworm that will be relocated to the center of the map.
This step is extremely easy if you have or can spawn a death machine during the fight.
Step 6: Averting the Apocalypse
You'll now periodically have a pink aura on your screen that you must cleanse by walking through a white wisp. This will cleanse this effect temporarily so you will need to re-cleanse yourself whenever you have this effect as it can kill you quickly.
Margwas with purple heads instead of yellow will now spawn without limits instead of zombies. You need to kill Margwas until your beast mode is ready, then have a player at each of the Train Stations in each district while the fourth player is in the middle of the map near the giant Gateworm. The three players in the Train Stations must shock electrical boxes found in each Train Station on the ceiling where you enter the train.
However, before this can be done one of the players at a Train Station where the train is not currently must call the train and then quickly run down the stairs enter beast mode, and begin to shock their electrical box along with the other two players turning the rails of the train blue.
Players should only be shocking their electrical boxes once the train is in motion, in the downtime players should avoid Margwas and lead them away from the boxes as to not cause interuptions once the train is in motion.
Meanwhile, the player near the Gateworm must shock all three keepers in the middle right as the train crushes the Gateworm. If done correctly, a giant red beam will shoot from the combined keepers at the Apothican in the sky, destroying it and beginning the ending cutscene.
If you fail to shock the keepers when the train crushes the Gateworm, you can try again immediately once you have regained the ability to turn become the beast
Congratulations! You have beaten the Shadows of Evil main quest: Apocalypse Averted
